Approved Clinical Supervision
Personal Statement:
I have a passion for helping people meet their goals for wellness. I maintain a bio-psycho-social perspective toward care, as I believe that treatment success is best attained through the approach of treating each individual within their environment. A focus on each person’s distinctive values, beliefs, perspectives, and strengths allows me to collaborate with my patients on a deep and meaningful level in a way that encourages personal growth. I’m dedicated to meeting the needs of each person I see through the use of individualized interventions. I respect each person’s right to self-determination and I strive to treat everyone I see with the highest level of dignity and respect.
Experience:
I began working in the mental health field in 2007, when I became employed on a children’s inpatient psychiatric facility as a mental health counseling. During this TIME, I worked with children age 4-17. I soon branched out and worked concurrently on the adult inpatient psychiatric unit for 7 years. The people that I helped treat on the psychiatric units struggled with both acute and chronic mental health issues. I also have experience working in an outpatient setting. I served as a children’s outpatient psycho-social rehabilitation therapist as well as a resource coordinator for low income families in Idaho. After relocating to Walla Walla, I spent nearly 5 years working specifically with the geriatric population in the role of social service director in the skilled nursing facility setting. I also have experience in home health care, where I worked with home-bound individuals as a medical social worker.
I obtained my undergraduate degrees in psychology (B.S.) and sociology (B.A.) at Washington State University. After completing undergraduate studies, I completed a clinically focused master’s of social work program at Walla Walla University. My theoretical orientation is eclectic with an emphasis on individual-centered as well as cognitive behavioral concepts. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the state of Washington (#LW60698693) and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Oregon (#L10888). I also was elected as the 2017-2018 Eastern Washington Regional Representative for the National Association of Social Workers which was an enriching and empowering experience for me.
I adhere to the National Association of Social Worker’s Code of Ethics. I also follow the code written by ACA for supervisors.
When I work in supervision, I usually meet with the supervisee for an hour at a time. I work within the Integrative Model of Supervision with a strong focus on a Systems Approach. In the systems approach to supervision, the heart of supervision is the relationship between supervisor and supervisee, which is mutually involving and aimed at bestowing power to both members. I believe that it is within this context, and with a focus on cultivating supervisee strengths that clinicians are best able to safely explore and professionally develop into the essence of who they hope to become.
I require at least a brief update on each active client, and quarterly at minimum I would like to review a section of a video or audiotape. My responsibilities include providing feedback clinically to the supervisee about his/her clinical work, assessing whether any ethical issues are addressed properly, evaluating the supervisee’s worked in regular intervals, and attending to the welfare of the clients who are receiving services. I will keep records of our session, and the issues discussed, including recommendations. I also strive to serve as a model of professional conduct and guide the supervisee in his/her development of a professional identity, while taking seriously the additional responsibility of protecting the welfare of the public. My supervising style is not for everyone- I require that my supervisees allow an open an honest level of vulnerability in our dialogue in regard to their responses and reactions to the therapeutic process. Walk openly into this process with me and I will do my part to make this an enriching experience for you.
The supervisee’s responsibilities include setting goals for professional growth, coming to the supervision sessions on time, prepared with questions regarding to their clients, the profession, ethical concerns, or skill development. To this end, the supervisee will audiotape or videotape his/her sessions quarterly at minimum and retain the tapes for use in review and supervision. The supervisee will maintain appropriate clinical records, adhere to the ACA code of ethics, and will bring any areas of concern regarding the care of their clients to me. The supervisee will also evaluate my performance as a supervisor and provide feedback to assist me in increasing my usefulness in the supervisory process- This feedback is one of the most useful opportunities I have to learn and grow myself as a supervisor.
All information discussed in the supervisory sessions is confidential, with the expectations of those conditions that signal imminent threat of harm to self or others, or abuse of children, elders, or the disabled.
Contact information is shared on an attached sheet and is there for the supervisee’s use in an emergency. If I am not available, the procedure for the supervisee to follow is outlined there also.
If you are dissatisfied with my supervision, I invite you at any time to talk with me about your concerns. If further recourse is sought, please contact the Department of Health.
I look forward to assisting you in meeting your professional goals

Business Planning and Professional Development Consulting Services
As my passion for mental health has grown, so has my love for business development. I love developing systems, processes, procedures, policies, and networks that meet or surpass business goals. Many providers do not always know the next "right" step or become overwhelmed with all of the planning and decisions that go into running a mental health practice. Assisting clinicians with getting new behavioral health businesses up and running or helping even the most seasoned practices problem solve strategies to overcome barriers sets my heart on fire. I take an intuitively led approach to my mentor-ship style, with a utilization of my strengths in strategic thinking, resourcefulness, and my strong desire to always know more and to do better. I can use my expertise to help with things like:
I love coordinating and creative problem solving with providers to help find ways of bolstering care in our community. I believe that when providers are supported and cared for, clients are well cared for, and communities become stronger. Mental health and caring for providers are my passions. By building systems that sustainably function for each provider, I believe we can accomplish long standing wellness in our community. If you would like support in reaching your goals for business or professional development, please email me for my rates. I would love to discuss the opportunity of working with you. alaynabrinton@anchorpointcounseling.hush.com --Alayna Brinton, LICSW, CCFP Chief Clinical Officer |
